Three Line Tales

Three Line Tales owes its existence to (the now defunct) Three Line Thursday, a weekly writing challenge that used to be a big part of my writing week. When it closed down, I missed it. When I rejigged my blogging schedule for my one year anniversary, I said I’d TLT by myself.

Then I decided I’d see if anyone wanted to TLT alongside me. And boy does it turn out that people want to TLT along – the number of participants is increasing week by week. Thanks everybody, you rock!

There are no real rules, but I’d like to ask you to stick to most of these guidelines:

  • Write three lines to go with the weekly photo prompt (the photos I use are either royalty-free or I’ve been given permission by the photographer to use them; please credit where appropriate) – sideways interpretation is encouraged. The photo is the launch point – take us wherever you fancy.
  • Your lines can be poetry, micro-fiction, micro non-fiction, quotes you think fit the photo prompt or just a really long caption – everything goes as long as it’s three lines long (you decide how long one line is).
  • Please link back to the weekly post (some of your readers might want to join in, too – the more, the merrier, right?).
  • Tag your post with 3LineTales – it’ll make it easier for others to find it in the Reader.
  • Use the hashtag #3LineTales on Twitter , #3LineTales on Tumblr#3LineTales on Ello or #3LineTales on Instagram if you’d rather not use your blog or don’t have one.
  • Read other participants’ lines and let them know if you like their work.
  • If you want, post your three lines in the comments of the weekly post (I think they’d look much better on your blog, though).
  • If the photo inspires you to write something longer than three lines, put a link in the comments, anyway – but mention you went over, please.
  • Be kind.
  • Have fun.

Happy three-lining!

      1. I want to participate. I tagged my post on my page but not sure if that is all I need to do. How do the stories come back to you? I am new to all of this so trying to find the correct directions is tricky. Also, would I put the picture of the day on my blog to show what my three line tale is referring to?

    1. Hello Mary, brilliant, please do join in! The next TLT post will go up just after midnight on Thursday, that’s where you’ll find this week’s photo prompt. Looking forward to your lines 🙂

  2. Sonya, just discovered you on the reader and love the thought of joining you on TLT. Saw the photo you posted 2-6-18 and it immediately illicitly a response from me. I’m thinking photo prompts might be better than word prompts!
    Thanks,
    Chuck
